    A few facts about Gavin Smith

    Gavin Smith was born on 4 September, 1968 in Guelph, Ontario. After he turned 18, he worked as a taxi driver. He found poker at the age of 26, in 1994 and just like many poker players back then, had struggled for a long while.

    But the results in a few years and accumulated him almost $6 million in earnings over 15 years as a professional poker player. Gavin Smith is married and has two sons and still resides in Canada.

    A few years ago Gavin Smith was a Full Tilt Poker pro and made frequent appearances on Poker After Dark. Also. every year he was invited to NBC National Heads-up Championship. Of course, everything has changed after Black Friday in 2011.

    Some TV Shows were cancelled, even NBC’s HU Championship skipped 2012 before returning in 2013. But Gavin Smith was not among 64 players to be invited to this exclusive event.

    Now, he plays independently and shows constant results. For example, in 2013 alone he recorded 8 cashes in various events throughout WSOP, WSOP Cirquit and Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival including two final tables.     May 2005 was superb for Gavin Smith. In just a week he managed to take down two high buy-in events and claim almost $1.3 million. The major chunk of that came for winning World poker Tour $10.000 Main Event in Las Vegas - $1.1 million.

    He came close to winning his second WPT in 2008 when in a $10.000 Main Event he finished second to claim $542.000. The event was won by a poker player Glen “Gramps” Witmer which was his first ever live cash.

    Gavin Smith also has a WSOP tittle to his name that is much more recent. In 2010 he cashed in only to WSOP events but one of them brought Gavin Smith his first gold bracelet. He won a $2.500 Limit/No Limit event to win over $268.000.
