Negreanu says" Dwan not as good"

  • A few post-WSOP weeks might seem a little slow. Players are on vacation and overall, not much is happening.

  • If you haven’t seen this already, a discussion around poker forums erupted after a recent Daniel Negreanu interview. In a recent interview 5 time WSOP bracelet winner mentions that another poker pro Tom Dwan, is not as good as people think.

Negreanu thinks Tom Dwan is overrated

As many fans Daniel Negreanu has, many of them also like Tom Dwan. In a recent interview Negreanu said that Tom Dwan and some other young poker players are not as good as people think they are. Moreover, the only reason why they have reached the heights of poker is because they where there in time when rich businessmen got interested into poker and lost a lot of money to the young pros.

Of course, Tom Dwan, Phil Galfond and the whole gang did hit it good at the right time, but how little or how much skill was involved is a completely different question.
Some say that getting into poker and winning a lot of money out of a poker enthusiast, Cirque de Soleil founder and billionaire Guy Laliberte was the main factor in the success of the young guns. Others argue that in order to play against billionaires, they needed to build their bankrolls before and that’s the real proof of their skill.

But the third version is just as interesting. Some claim as Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker are ran by Ration Group, one poker pro talking about the other is creating a fake rivalry. Something similar that you could have seen when Negreanu challenged Hansen (or was it the other way around?) to a Pokerstars Pros vs. Full Tilt Poker Pros match.

I guess, if it is a marketing trick, we are ought to know very soon. If not, it will probably fade away to news of U.S. poker legislation and WSOP Europe. It is also possible that we will hear from Dwan.
